Knowledge Base

Upload documents and search them with AI powered semantic search

The Knowledge Base lets you upload documents (PDFs, text files, markdown) and search them using semantic search. Use it to give your workflows access to your own data, company documentation, or reference materials.

Creating a Knowledge Base

Navigate to Knowledge Base

Go to the Knowledge Base section from the main navigation.

Create a new base

Click New Knowledge Base and give it a name and optional description.

Upload documents

Click Upload to add PDF, TXT, or Markdown files, or choose Sync website to convert a public webpage into a searchable source.

Wait for processing

Documents are automatically chunked and indexed for semantic search. The status badge shows processing progress.

Document Status

Each uploaded document has a status:

StatusMeaning
ProcessingDocument is being chunked and indexed
ReadyDocument is searchable
FailedProcessing encountered an error (retry available)

Searching Your Knowledge Base

You can search directly from the Knowledge Base detail page using the search bar. Results show the most relevant passages from your documents.

Using in Workflows

Add a Knowledge Base node to your workflow to search your documents programmatically. Configure it with a query (which can use template variables from previous nodes) and the number of results to return.

{{kb_results.results}}

The node also supports Upload using a file URL, file name, and file type. Upload starts asynchronous document processing; it does not make the document immediately searchable.

This is especially powerful when combined with an AI Agent node — feed the search results into the AI to answer questions grounded in your own data.

Managing Documents

  • Delete individual documents from the document list
  • Retry failed documents to reprocess them
  • Search across all documents within a knowledge base
  • Sync a public HTTP or HTTPS website as Markdown content

Localhost and private-network website URLs are rejected.
